As a fellow, I assisted Montana Legal Services Association (MLSA) with the development of its Consumer Financial Stability Tools. The suite of tools included a garnishment calculator to allow users to determine the impact a garnishment order might have on them; a tool to help identify possible claims, defense, and exempt income and push out legal content for their common consumer questions; and an automated interactive pro se answer form to make it easier for users to respond to debt collection lawsuits. The goal of the project was to empower low-income Montanans with debt-related legal issues to address barriers to economic stability on their own.
