When I was at Kansas Legal Services (KLS), a non-profit law firm dedicated to aiding the underserved, I was instrumental in amplifying resources for self-representing parties. The cornerstone of our approach was a comprehensive LiveChat on the KLS website coupled with a plethora of Free Online Legal Forms. My summer was a whirlwind of activities that spanned from developing answers for various projects, generating and enhancing video content, assisting website users, and updating online legal forms. Notably, every Monday, I addressed questions from about five website users concerning legal forms, initiated an extensive log for the forthcoming Expungement Chatbot, and effected over 50 updates in legal forms. My collaborative endeavor in scripting and filming two instructional videos will usher self-representing parties through the court labyrinth. Although still in production, these videos promise to be an enduring asset for KLS. The most exhilarating facet of my journey was the creation of how-to videos. Drawing from frequent client queries and my observations of self-representing parties, these videos are tailored to meet the specific challenges faced by Kansans. Engaging in every phase, from ideation to filming, was both educational and delightful. The presence of an on-set attorney ensured the accuracy of the content. Concurrently, my involvement with the Senior Mobile Clinics provided me with invaluable insights into hosting efficient clinics. It underscored how technology, when applied judiciously, can bridge the justice gap, be it through aiding self-representing parties online or streamlining processes at on-site events. My meticulous documentation of every undertaking, noting the merits and demerits, is intended to guide KLS long after my departure. Whether it was the practical exposure I gained attending landlord-tenant trials and assisting in the Protection from Abuse docket or the fulfilling tasks of developing resources, my time at KLS has profoundly shaped my understanding of the nexus between law and technology in serving the community.
