My fellowship project at Lagniappe Law Lab aimed to support the improvement of louisianalawhelp.org, develop statewide automated forms, and advance the Louisiana Civil Legal Navigator project. As a fellow, I played an essential role in these projects by assisting in the restructuring and organization of content on the site, making it easier for people to find the information they need. One of the critical components of my project was form automation. I was tasked with designing, developing, testing, and releasing statewide forms, making it easier for people to complete legal documents. This work helped remove a significant barrier for those who might not have the resources to hire an attorney to fill out these forms. Finally, I was responsible for expediting the review of legal content for the Louisiana Civil Legal Navigator project. I coordinated with volunteer subject matter expert reviewers and evaluated and improved content using plain language principles. By simplifying the language used in legal content, we made it easier for people to understand their legal rights and navigate the legal system.
