Dedicated to bridging the gap between legal expertise and those who need it most, I was thrilled to serve as an Access to Justice Technology Fellow. Partnering with the revered New Mexico Legal Aid in Albuquerque, we worked to streamline the transfer of knowledge from experienced attorneys to budding advocates. To facilitate this, we created a series of innovative interactive guides powered by community lawyers. I was tasked with the responsibility of fostering communication between seasoned practice groups and our software allies. Our targeted legal issues were both diverse and impactful: unraveling the intricacies of jurisdiction in family law custody agreements; amplifying due process rights for tenants in subsidized or public residences, ensuring they aren’t unjustly evicted; navigating the maze of attorney fees in consumer protection cases to ensure maximum entitlement. Guided by insights from surveys, we wanted to equip junior advocates with the expertise they need to tread confidently into the legal world, minimizing the need for extensive supervision. ‍
