For my fellowship, I worked on a research memo on the state of 9th Circuit case law related to due process challenges to the usage of VTC in immigration detention and raised awareness surrounding this topic. I also drafted a memo on the availability of e-bond payment for immigration bonds in Southern AZ, including any case law supporting a demand that ICE offer it, particularly through the lens of COVID-19 social distancing requirements. Finally, I was responsible for drafting a research memo on the state of ICE detainees being released under conditions of electronic monitoring; specifically, if there is a service fee associated for the electronic monitoring and whether there are possible litigation opportunities surrounding a "detainee-funded" monitoring program.
